A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO SAFELY USING AN ELECTRIC SCOOTER (E-SCOOTER)

With foldable aluminum frames, rear shock absorbers, and cruise control features, electric scooters provide a fantastic mode of transport for urban dwellers to stay mobile in a rapidly changing world.

These state-of-the-art scooters can be utilized for leisure and can reach top speeds of up to twenty miles per hour. However, it’s vital not to get too carried away with the excitement of having new wheels. ScooterOPS puts Safety First and encourages all of our riders and clients to do the same.  If you have not read our waiver of liability and this safety guide we suggest you do so before riding ANY electric scooter especially if it is your first time.

So, to help you maintain a safety-first attitude, Scooter Operations has put together a beginner’s guide to safely using an electric scooter. Through this guide, you will learn how to stay attentive and also be weary and even protect the pedestrians around you.

Getting Started

Find a safe area to scoot: Locate a park and place that doesn’t get too crowded, where you can implement certain fundamentals like kicking off, accelerating, turning, leaning into your turns, and stopping and braking safely.

Focus on the key fundamentals of riding: Practice daily looking quickly over your shoulder.  Maybe even stretch your shoulders and neck and ankles before you ride. Also applying the brakes in a timely manner.  These things come with practice.  Aside from all of this ensure that you wear your helmet and it is safely secured along with knee and elbow pads if you feel the need.

Advice From The Pros

Warm-up: Don’t start by going on a busy street. Practice at a park for the first five to ten times that you ride.   Find a well-paved area where few or even no cars are — like a big empty parking lot or an empty sidewalk.  These are the best places for beginner e-scooter riders.  Also, it is essential that you can execute proper braking and maneuvering when around pedestrians.

Understand all dynamics of the scooter: Fundamentals and safety are critical, so become familiar with the overall capabilities of the specific scooter, including motor power (acceleration power), braking power, turning radius, and battery range which means how long the battery of the e-scooter will last.
